Why book? There are few resorts in the Caribbean that can claim to lead in design, food, privacy, beaches, wellness, and family retreats. Set across an 18,000-acre nature reserve, Amanyara manages to do all of the above in a way that never distracts or deters from what you have set out to achieve—a tranquil, restorative holiday in one of the most beautiful spots in the area. Set the scene The travelers who check into Amanyara may have different backgrounds—perhaps they are a family of four who have dropped in for the school holiday week from Atlanta; honeymooners in from London; a group of girlfriends reconnecting while on leave from their busy New York City jobs; the odd A-list celeb almost blending in—but regardless of where they’ve come in from or why, they all make sense here. A soundtrack of calming, gushing water accompanies the airy arrivals pavilion, where golf carts are at the ready to whisk guests, cocktail or welcome drink in hand, to their villas where it’s entirely likely the butler has already begun unpacking their luggage. From that point, the cycle of roaming from beach to pool to spa to catamaran to tennis courts takes over, moving at the speed set entirely by you, the guest. Should you get stuck at just one spot and not want to move, well, that’s no problem either. I assure you the resort will ensure all cocktail, snacking, and reading needs are delivered to wherever it is you and your crew decide to stick to. The rooms Quiet luxury is the name of the game at Amanyara, and the resort consists of one- t0 two-bedroom pavilions and three- to six-bedroom villas, each surrounded by forest, with park or ocean views. The layout means they all feel incredibly private—your kids could be splashing in your villa pool and their squeals are unlikely to disturb your neighbor trying to catch an afternoon nap on their outdoor lounger. Each villa has its own pool, golf cart parking, and outdoor area. Beds are plump, bathtubs are deep, and all stays are designed to optimize the island’s brilliant natural light. My family of four stayed in a one-bedroom pavilion, which was shrouded by natural flora. It kind of made the pool feel like a backyard pool, which I loved. My kids could scamper around the grass and then jump into the pool. We really enjoyed spending lazy afternoons there as my daughter napped. One thing to mention—the floors are made of stone and extremely hard. So I was always on extra alert when there were wet feet going back and forth, be it from the pool or bath. Food and drink Though you could head off to a vibrant beach bar on Providenciales, the reality is pretty much all your eating and drinking is happening across the resort’s 18,000 acres—and that’s a good thing. Executive chef Jovan Uksanovic, who arrived at Amanyara from Aman Sveti Stefan in his native Montenegro, oversees a team across three main places to eat, including The Restaurant, where tables spill out from an open-walled dining area across terraces with fantastic ocean views, The Bar, and the seasonal Beach Club (in-villa dining is also available for any meal, at any time). The food is phenomenal. Hotel breakfasts should be a dining highlight of any respectable property, and Amanyara’s measured up. A real challenge of Caribbean dining can be the sourcing of ingredients and maintenance of freshness, but as chef Jovan explained, a lot of work goes into sourcing as local as possible and strategizing on the best way to bring in everything else. The neighborhood/area Amanyara is located about 25 minutes from Providenciales, on the quiet northwest tip, making for extraordinary sunsets. It borders Northwest Point National Park, which is excellent for birdwatching and exploring a network of underwater caves. Worth it? Yes—don’t overlook the beach setup here. The sand is powder fine, the sea itself a brilliant, glowing shade of blue and wonderfully still. The resort has a stash of water toys at the ready, including snorkels to admire the turtles and beautiful fish, as well as paddleboards. |
