As with traveling to any country outside of your own, there are a few unwritten rules for visiting Paris with which savvy tourists should get familiar. For decades, Parisians have had an unfairly earned reputation for being rude and snooty; cold shoulders from the city’s denizens can often be traced to the negligence of a visitor to follow a social script, ignorant of them or otherwise. True, to be punished for not following the rules you didn’t know is also unfair.

I've had an especially sublime summer and I’m sad to see it come to a close. Over the past couple of months, I’ve checked out Europe's new hotel openings in some of the Traveller team’s favourite destinations. But, the coming weeks are for slowing down and embracing what the UK has to offer. I’ve booked a staycation in Suffolk – a country manor house transformed into a super-stylish wonderland. Family birthdays will be spent at self-catering spots in the New Forest and Wiltshire, and I’m excited to experience a private cottage in its beautiful grounds. My wellies are ready and waiting.
